To be held in Alstead, New Hampshire, at the Vilas Pool. Our next triennial Bascom Reunion will be held on Saturday, July 30th at the park known as Vilas Pool, located in Alstead, NH. This is the same location as our last reunion, and that the early reunions were held starting in 1949 through 1959. Some photos from those early reunions can be seen here. Dear Bascom Family, After three long years I am very excited to invite you to the triennial Bascom Reunion on Saturday July 30th at Vilas Pool in Alstead, NH. This will be an excellent time to reconnect with family from near and far. Finding a location to host such a large family is no small task, and in spite of the recent pandemic, the wonderful people at Vilas Pool have agreed to let us return again this summer. Vilas offers many activities including swimming (no life guard), horseshoe pits, volleyball, corn hole, and a beautiful location with a pavilion that historically have either been very expensive or impossible for the association to provide at reunions, and we are thankful they have agreed to have us again. Lunch will be a full, delicious pasta dinner. The cost for lunch is $10 per person ($6 per child). Please fill out the included lunch reservation form and send back before July 16 if you would like to purchase lunch. You are also welcome to bring your own picnic lunch, or The Alstead General Store is only ¾ of a mile up the road with a full deli counter. The reunion association will be providing ice cream with real maple syrup in the afternoon for all. There is a registration fee of $5.00 per person OR $10.00 per family (a family constitutes those living at the same address). This helps cover costs of mailings, rentals, etc. You may either send this ahead of time or pay it at the reunion registration. Donations are always graciously accepted and helps us to continue this great event. Registration payment checks may be sent before the reunion to Crystal Trimble, 55 Reed Rd. A few things to consider this year. · An online store has been set up for Bascom t-shirts INSTEAD of selling them at the reunion this year. The design this year is based off of a hand painted water color by Susie Goll Szynalski which she researched for authenticity. · New this year, The Bascom Reunion Logo Contest. Submissions can be emailed to bascomreunionvicepresident@gmail.com or mailed to JoAnna Arendarczyk at 117 Stage Rd. Nottingham, NH 03290 by 7/16/22. The submissions will be voted on by attendees at the reunion on the 30th . The winning design will be used on shirts, etc. for the 2025 reunion. This is your chance to show off your creative side and win the ultimate bragging rights! · As always, don’t forget about the memorial table. Please bring a photo or memento to remember and honor our loved ones who have passed away since the last reunion. · The silent auction is the main fundraiser for association, so please bring a donation if you are able and come ready to bid. · Volunteers are still needed to help with various things throughout the day! Genealogy Brad Bascom and Susie Szynalski have continued their search through census records, newspaper archives, and Internet sites such as Ancestry, Find-A-Grave, and Genealogy Bank to expand the Bascom genealogy. A wall chart showing 14 generations of Bascoms (over 6,200 names) will be on display. Brad will have a laptop at the genealogy table to assist folks with research. There will be a display of photos from past reunions, and of other famous Bascoms. We encourage you to bring genealogy updates either on paper or on computer thumb-drives. Directions: We will have signs there directing you. From Keene: At the 7-Eleven circle, where Maple Ave and Court St meet, take the exit for Surry (North on Rte 12A) for 13 miles. Turn left onto NH-123N/NH-12A N (0.8mi). Turn right onto NH-123A E (there should be a sign at this turn or look for the metal Wooly Mammoth). Most likely there will still be construction at this turn, so there may be a stop light up still. Vilas will be on your left, less than half a mile. From I-91 heading North: Take Exit 5, turn right off of the ramp, Right onto US-5S (0.8mi), slight left onto VT-123 E, Turn left under the bridge to stay on VT-123, Left onto NH-123 S/Hwy 12N (1.4mi), Turn right onto Upper Walpole Rd (1.3mi), Right onto NH-123 S/Whitcomb Rd (4.3mi) Turn right at the blinking light onto NH-123/River St. Turn Right at the tee and then bear left to stay on NH123, through Alstead. Watch for signs and turn Left onto NH123A just before Kimiec’s Garage; bridge construction should still be going on, so watch for a stop light. Vilas Pool will be on the left. Heading South I-91: Take Exit 5, turn left off the ramp and follow directions above for I-91 North.
