BASCOM REUNION - SATURDAY JULY 27, 2019

To be held in Alstead, New Hampshire, at the Vilas Pool.

Our next triennial Bascom Reunion will be held on Saturday, July 27th at the park known as Vilas Pool, located in Alstead, NH.  This is the location that the early reunions were held, starting in 1949 through 1959.   Some photos from those early reunions can be seen here.

Our Bascom Reunion secretary is Rebecca Bascom Dechir.  She reminds us that if you or members of your family have moved, she may not have the correct mailing address.  If you want information emailed, contact her.   Share this with your family.

Email Rebecca at bascomsec@yahoo.com, or message her on Facebook.

Dear Bascom Family near and far,

Please mark your calendars now our triennial Bascom Reunion will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at Vilas Pool in Alstead, NH. 2019 marks 70 years, it is apropos for us to be back at Vilas Pool where the first reunion was held. Many of us remember Vilas Pool from our youth, I learned how to swim there. Vilas Pool had been closed for many years and has just recently been reopened as a local swimming hole and picnic area. We have been able to rent the facility for the whole day. The pavilion holds 200+ people and will be a great seating area. The chimes will be working and will keep us entertained. Many activities include horseshoes, volleyball, corn hole, boating, paddle boats, kayaks and swimming. If any of you have lifeguard experience please let us know, your help will be appreciated. Parents will have to watch their children.

There is a Cook Shack at Vilas Pool manned by BBQ Ken catering, their menu includes – brisket, pulled pork, ribs, chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, cole slaw, pasta and potato salads, French fries, soft serve ice cream, etc… This will be a pay as you go. If you so desire picnic lunches are acceptable as well.

Parking will be at a premium, so please carpool where possible. There will be a designated drop off area at the beginning of the foot bridge. The main parking area will be up the road on the right, within walking distance.

Please don’t forget the memorial table, remembering those who have passed away since the last reunion.  Photos and mementos are a great way for us to remember our loved ones.

The silent auction is our main fund raiser. So please bring something for the silent auction, items can be handmade or something to represent the area you hail from and don’t forget kid items as well. Up to ten of the larger ticket items will be auctioned off live to add a little spice to the auction. Matthew Bascom will once again be offering his unique talent as auctioneer.

Brad Bascom and Susie Szynalski have continued their search through census records, newspaper archives, and Internet sites such as Ancestry, Find-A-Grave, and Genealogy Bank to expand the Bascom genealogy.   A wall chart showing 14 generations of Bascoms (over 6,200 names) will be on display. Brad will have a laptop at the genealogy table to assist folks with research. There will be a display of photos from past reunions, and of other famous Bascoms.  We encourage you to bring old photos, and genealogy updates either on paper or on computer thumb-drives. If you would like to check out the latest genealogy, visit the web site BascomGenealogy.com, or find us on Facebook by searching for “Bascom Reunion Association”.

Please don’t forget you have to register, and the fee is $2.00/person OR $5.00/family which helps with increasing costs of rentals, etc.  You may either send this ahead of time or pay it at the reunion registration. Donations are always graciously accepted and helps us to continue this great event. We will be accepting credit card payment this year for auction payments. Just remember it costs us to process all credit card payments so adding a little extra will help. Registration payments may be sent BEFORE the reunion to be processed via Paypal to: bascomreunion@yahoo.com or snail mailed to: payable to either: Crystal Bascom or Bascom Reunion.  Please mail payment to:  Rebecca Dechir, PO Box 1500, Charlestown, NH, 03603

Turn right onto NH-123A E (there should be a sign at this turn or look for the metal Wooly Mammoth). Most likely there will still be construction at this turn, so there may be a stop light up still. Watch for signs and turn Left onto NH123A just before Kimiec’s Garage; bridge construction should still be going on, so watch for a stop light. Vilas Pool will be on the left.
